Walmart Supercenter and Meijer both offer retail and grocery selections and are 0.8 miles west and 1.1 miles northwest, respectively. Additional grocery items are available at Kroger, 1.4 miles to the northwest and other retail options in the area include discount stores Dollar Tree and Dollar General, both within 2.7 miles, as well as department stores Kohl’s, JCPenney and Macy’s, which are present within 4.3 miles. History

Greenwood was first known as “Smocktown” or “Smock’s Settlement,” named in honor of John B and Isaac Smock, the first European American settlers to build a cabin in the county in 1823. In 1825, Smocktown became “Greenfield,” which soon after was changed to Greenwood, because another town in Hancock County already claimed the name.
